The Morning Star Company and its affiliates operate three tomato processing facilities in Central California, processing about 40% of the California processing tomato crop, in addition to tomato growing, transplanting, farming, harvesting and trucking operations.  The company employs approximately 500 year-round and over 3,000 seasonal colleagues, with annual sales of about $1 billion.

The Mission and Position

To provide accurate, timely quality information for manufacturing so that changes can be made when necessary to meet customer expectations.

Responsibilities and Activities

  • Conduct training and documentation of returning and new Colleagues & ensure QC documents and forms available & QC Safety and Compliance of GMP’s, Reinforce Food Safety Culture and Food Defense
  • Verify all technicians are following SOP’s and monitor production to ensure compliance with customer specifications
  • Oversee and coordinate the daily quality control activities including placement of QC colleagues, work assignments, performance, training, and reviews
  • Inform production colleagues and others, as required, of process or quality deviations that require corrective action in a timely manner and follow-through to ensure corrections are made successfully and Communicate with lab and flow coordinators, caustic recovery, steam peeler and mechanics to meet specifications,
  • Confirm which products are running on respective systems and lines and coordinate Colleagues are needed
  • Provide QC information to all Colleagues & Perform pass down to incoming shift
  • Maintain workplace area clean and sanitized
  • Ability to perform analytical testing and grading for evaporated tomato products, formulated sauces, peeled tomatoes, and Fires Roasted products
  • Verify using correct containers & evaluation of cans/pouches condition
  • Review QC records and Data Entry for accuracy and timeliness, assuring accuracy and readability
  • Set up work orders and ensure Work Order changes according to Quality Standards
  • Identify products that do not meet customer specifications prior to leaving the Liberty facility & retesting as required
  • Maintain accurate Hold information logs, assign Quality Hold’s as needed ,Rechecking Hold samples
  • Responsible for Pre-op, Sanitation and Post Maintenance Inspections
  • Maintain quality control instruments and review calibration records and request supplies when needed
  • Responsible for Calibration of Lab Thermometers, auditing ingredients and batch forms
  • Responsible for ATP swabbing before packing organic products
  • Ongoing inventory throughout the season to ensure proper account of supplies
  • Retesting samples for customer complaints or any extra testing as needed
  • Relief technicians for lunch if needed
  • Testing Morningstar and PCP crosschecks
  • Assist on customer and daily cuttings
  • Conduct meetings with Lab technicians to resolve conflicts, following the Colleague’s guidelines
  • Continually working on improving overall function and performance of the Lab
  • Recollection of customer samples and control display samples
  • Document information in the Logbook regarding an event, occurrence, or issue
  • Implementation of Discrepancy forms at the time of an issue or occurrence in production that will affect the product
  • Citric and Brine injection adjustment as needed based on product testing

Knowledge, Talent and Experience Requirements

  • Ability to listen & communicate written and oral information
  • Ability to push, pull and lift to 50lbs & work long hours, overnight and weekends throughout the season
  • Ability to work in high noise, high heat & cold weather conditions
  • Ability to follow GMP, Safety & Food Defense policies & work safely in fast-paced production areas
  • Ability to stand 85% of your shift and climb stairs every 2-3 hours
  • Ability to work in a Self-Management culture, guide Colleagues & be a team player
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Quality Control & Coordinator experience

Compensation

Hourly pay range is $23.00-$26.00 an hour, depending on experience/skills.
