The Company

The Morning Star Company and its affiliates operate three tomato processing facilities in Central California, processing over 1/3 of the California processing tomato crop, in addition to tomato transplanting, farming, harvesting and trucking operations.  The company employs over 500 year-round and approximately 4,000 seasonal Colleagues.

The Morning Star Company is the largest independent producer of bulk tomato ingredient products (tomato paste and diced tomatoes) in the world.  We also produce canned tomatoes, tomato products and specialty sauces in pouches for customers in the retail and food service markets.  The company is known worldwide for its innovation and integrity.

The Mission and Position:
The Mission of this Colleague is, “to receive, store and issue materials, equipment, and other items from warehouse, with the highest level of accuracy achievable, in order to fulfill customers’ orders with perfect precision.” This person must verify and keep records and prepare items for incoming and outgoing shipments. This person’s duties include shipping merchandise or material, receiving, unpacking, verifying, and recording incoming merchandise or material.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
 
  • Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities.
  • Manually load or unload materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms, railcars, or lifting devices.
  • Dispose of damaged or defective items or return them to vendors.                                                                                                   
  • Keep records on the use and/ or damage of stock or stock handling equipment
  • Drive fork trucks in order to pick up incoming stock or to deliver parts to designated locations.
  • Issue or distribute materials, products, parts, and supplies to customers or coworkers, based on information from incoming requisitions.
  • Mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment.
  • Provide assistance or guidance to other warehouse/shipping & receiving Colleagues.
  • Receive and count stock items, and record data manually or using computer.
  • Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouse.
  • Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.
  • Some outside work may be required unloading railcars and loading railcars.
  • Adheres to and understands GMP and Safety programs.
  • Understands and uses the Standard Operating Procedures for the area.
  • Train and mentor new Colleagues, as needed.

Qualifications:
 
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One or two years related (warehouse) experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Push-push experience preferred
  • Scanner experience preferred
  • Computer and software skills preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others orally or in writing.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal direction.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain certification through an OSHA approved forklift certification.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • The ability to perform repetitious work.
  • The ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, squatting, bending, pushing, twisting, grasping, reaching, turning, stooping, climbing, and lifting.

Hours and Compensation:
The starting compensation range for this role is expected to be $26.50-$28.00 per hour. Weekly hours are expected to be a minimum of 40 hours, with some overtime during certain times of the year.
