The Company

The Morning Star Company and its affiliates operate three tomato processing facilities in Central California, processing over 1/3 of the California processing tomato crop, in addition to tomato transplanting, farming, harvesting and trucking operations.  The company employs over 500 year-round and approximately 4,000 seasonal Colleagues.

The Morning Star Company is the largest independent producer of bulk tomato ingredient products (tomato paste and diced tomatoes) in the world.  We also produce canned tomatoes, tomato products and specialty sauces in pouches for customers in the retail and food service markets.  The company is known worldwide for its innovation and integrity.

The Mission and Position:

The Mission of this Colleague is to “ensure smooth and efficient operations of our Hanford operations in all aspects, including planning, organizing, and executing the movement of goods from production to customers, safe operation, thereby ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.” 
 
Specific Activities will include:
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement distribution strategies to optimize processes, reduce costs, and improve customer service. 
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, and shipping goods. 
  • Inventory Oversight: Monitor inventory levels, ensure accuracy, and implement strategies for efficient inventory control. 
  • Team Development: Guide a team of warehouse colleagues, providing training, coaching, and performance management. 
  • Budget Oversight: Manage the distribution budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation. 
  • Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in distribution processes and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity. 
  • Customer Service:      Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment, addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues. 
  • Compliance:   Ensure adherence to industry regulations and company policies related to safety, security, and quality. 
  • Supplier Relations: Manage relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery of goods. 
  • Data Analysis: Analyze distribution data to identify trends and make informed decisions to optimize operations. 
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports on distribution performance, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement. 

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Analyzing data, identifying problems, and developing solutions. 
  • Knowledge of distribution and logistics principles: Understanding of warehouse operations, inventory management, transportation, and supply chain management. 
  • Proficiency in relevant software: Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory management systems, and other relevant software. 
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively with Colleagues, customers, and suppliers. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively. 
  • We expect that the successful candidate will likely have 3-5 years of experience in applicable distribution or logistics supply chain role. 
  • Meaningful, Mission-related education is appreciated, or equivalent experience.
 
Performance Measures (Steppingstones)
  1. Safety: OSHA recordable rate   
  2. Productivity: Pallets per hour
  3. Quality: Complaints per order %
  4. Delivery: On-time shipping %

Compensation:
Starting compensation for this role will be $100,000 to $130,000, depending upon qualifications.
